Applying to India

Friday, February 7, 2014

I love nursing. Before my mission, Father in Heaven graciously helped me into the BYU Nursing program. After 3 semesters in the program, I parted for a time (18 blessed months) to serve in the Washington D.C. South mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I cherish my mission and have been forever changed by it, I praise and thank our God for the such a sacred and transforming experience. He is so good.

Three months ago, I returned home and I am now back at BYU. I'm currently loving life in the Pediatrics and Labor & Delivery semester of nursing school. A snapchat, saved by my good friend Jeff Dunn: (And yes, I testify that God invented everything "smart" for the work of salvation)

I've now helped deliver FIVE darling babies, straight in from our pre mortal home with Father in Heaven! So outrageous.

In a few short months, at the end of May to be precise, I will have the privilege of traveling to India with a handful of girls from the nursing program. In the country's most impoverished areas, we will serve, love, treat, and care for His suffering children, sick with leprosy and other debilitating diseases.

The application process for this chance of a lifetime commenced months ago, while I was still serving a mission for the Mormon church. When I returned home, all the other nursing students had completed their applications long ago. But with the help and guiding instruction of my dear professors, I was finally able to complete the paperwork and successfully pay the $500 application fee. Or so I thought. A few days ago, I received an email informing me my application was to the wrong program! Instead of applying to the Nursing India study abroad, I applied to the regular India program. I was told an additional $300 would be required for my mistake. I wept. Already a poor college student depending wholly on my kind and generous parents, my heart ached at the thought of causing them greater expense, for this fee is only the beginning of much more to come.

I poured my heart out in prayer, pleading to Heavenly Father for His help. I could feel Him quietly embrace me in His arms, assuring me everything would be ok.

Tired and tear-stained, I walked into the ISB office, BYU's travel agency if you will. I was greeted by a kind girl named Suzanne. Her demeanor was gentle and when I explained my situation, apologizing for my mistake, she was filled with sweet compassion. She quickly got to work, genuinely committed to help me. I felt so important, valued, and cared for. As she looked me in the eyes, assuring me that she would provide a way to free me of my debt, I could see our Savior in her countenance. He stood before me, determined and full of love. Compassion, kindness, and and a genuine commitment to forgive me of my mistake.

By the grace of our dear Lord and Savior, the $300 debt was forgiven and my application to the Nursing India study abroad program was complete. What a beautiful day! Thanks be to God!

My prayer is that this blog will be another testament of our loving Father in Heaven and His Beloved Son Jesus Christ. They are intricately involved & intimately invested in our lives and I hope to be an instrument in Their hands in revealing their perfect micromanagement of every detail.
