I remember returning home from my mission and asking Father in Heaven where He would have me live for my first semester back at BYU. I was struggling to decide between living north of campus with Cindy, or living south of campus elsewhere. I weighed out in my mind the pros and cons of each and felt drawn to be near my dear companion who I loved and looked to as a shining example of our Savior. Turning to the scriptures, Father ever so kindly told me to open to Helaman chapter 6 of the Book of Mormon. The Holy Ghost opened my eyes and filled my heart as I read the 6th verse: “And it came to pass that many of the [return missionaries] did go into the land northward; and also [Julia] and [Cindy] and [Melissa] went into the land northward… and behold there was peace in all the land.”
And now, our time as roommates is coming to a close. But, gratefully, it is merely the opening of a bright and glorious future.
The words of our beloved President Uchtdorf, Christ’s living Apostle, has echoed in my mind:
"In His plan, THERE ARE NO TRUE ENDINGS, ONLY EVERLASTING BEGINNINGS.”
We became roommates when the era of missionary “companionship” ended. And now as "roommate-ship” ends, we step forward into the beautiful future prepared for us by God.
(Next stop: roommate-hood with Liza and Amanda! And Stu as our across the way neighbor. Oh how I love my family.)
Oh how I praise and adore Him for this precious life and for the people He allows us to know, learn from, grow with, and love. Cindy, Melissa, and now my dear Austin are but a few. Thanks be to God.
"The best is yet to be.” (Elder Holland)
